Waechter, Baron von Eberhard. A prominent Dane and Freemason, born 1747, died 1825. He was one of the leaders of the Strict Observance and, in his later years, became involved in a cross current of misunderstanding, charges, and countercharges. Having been sent to Italy to seek information about the Strict Observance, and not having given it a very high recommendation on his return, he was accused of betraying his trust and making himself rich by dealing in Masonic degrees. In 1782, he proposed a revival of the Templar system but was accused of being an agent of the Jesuits. In 1822, he published Word of Truth about Humanity, My Brethren.
