Tabernacle. The only tabernacle
symbolism appropriated by Freemasonry appears in the ritual of the American
Royal Arch Degree and that refers to the tabernacle erected by Zerubbabel
preparatory to the building of the Second Temple. In the English ritual, the
Chapter room represents the ancient Sanhedrin. The tabernacle of Zerubbabel
differed from that erected by Moses in the Wilderness and the tabernacle
erected by David. Also, the Royal Arch ritualists altered the positions of the
veils, placing them crosswise of the room, whereas in the original they covered
the walls, though the colors may have been the same in both.
