Buhle, Johann Gottlieb.

Professor of philosophy in the University of Gottingen. Born 1753, died 1821. He was not a Freemason but, in 1804, published a work entitled, On the Origin and the Principal Events of the Orders of Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry, presenting the theory that John Valentine Andrea invented Freemasonry in 1629. His work was criticized by Frederick Nicolai in 1806 and was not praised even by De Quincy, who was no friend of Masonry, but who published in 1824 a rearrangement of Buhle’s work under the title, Historico-critical Inquiry into the Origin of the Rosicrucians and the Freemasons, (London Magazine, Vol. 9).
