British Guiana.

A British Crown Colony on the north shore of South America, with its capital at Georgetown. In earlier times, proprietorship of the Guianas changed as one or the other naval power was preeminent. The Grand Lodge of Holland warranted Saint Juan de la Re-Union in 1771 and Lodge No. 887 was warranted in an early year by the Grand Lodge of Ireland, both at Georgetown and both soon lapsed. There was probably a Dutch lodge, Calum non Mutat Gesus at Berbice in 1799. The Grand Lodge of New York formed Lodge of Chosen Friends of Demerara at Demerara in 1801, which seems to have merged with Union Lodge No. 247, which was warranted by the Ancient Grand Lodge of England at Georgetown in 1813. The United Grand Lodge of England warranted Mount Olive No. 385 at Georgetown in 1827 and 4 others down to 1943. Scotland formed Unity, No. 797 at Port Elizabeth in 1873 and 2 others at Georgetown in 1912 and 1919. In 1954, there were 7 English lodges under a District Grand Lodge and 3 Scotch lodges. There was one English Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and 7 Scotch Chapters.
