Bideaud, Antoine

A member of the de Grasse-Tilly Supreme Council 33rd Degree in San Domingo (French West Indies), who conferred the 32nd Degree on five members of the Chapter Rose Croix in New York City, Aug. 4, 1806 and, together with them, opened a Sovereign Grand Council and Consistory of Sublime Princes of the Royal Secret, 30th, 31st, and 32nd Degrees. This was the highest grade conferred in the Northern states up to that time and, though irregularly conferred, the recipients were later healed and their Council became the first regular Supreme Council of the Rite in the North. Bideaud seems not to have remained long in New York. At any rate, he was not there in 1813, when Emanuel de la Motta of the Charleston, S. C. Supreme Council healed the members of the New York body, thereby establishing the first regular Council 33rd Degree in the North.
