Benedict XIV.

Benedict XIV. Pope of the Roman Catholic Church at Rome 1740-1758. He was born at Bologna in 1675 and died in 1758. He was rated as a learned man and a patron of the arts and sciences. He was the author of the Bull, Providas, issued against the Freemasons May 18, 1751. See ANTI-MASONRY.
