Beauseant. The w*r banner of the Medieval Templars, which, being black in the upper half and white in the lower, was said to signify that they were fair and favorable to the friends of Christ, but (comments removed). In the Temple Church, London, Henry I is represented holding such banner in his hand. The same beauseant and banner have been adopted by the modern Order of Knights Templar, the latter bearing the motto: Non Nobis, Domine, Non Nobis, sed Nomini Tuo da Gloriam, (Not unto Us, Oh Lord, Not unto Us, but unto Thy Name Give Glory).
