Babington, Mrs. Catherine

Babington, Mrs. Catherine. Daughter of Charles and Margaret Sweet, born at Princess Furnace, Ky., Dec. 28, 1815; is claimed to have concealed herself in a room adjoining a lodge room and, after a year and a half, during which she had mastered much of the Masonic work, she was clothed in red flannel and taken in to the lodge where she took the obligation of Masonry. It is said that she kept herself posted on Masonic matters up to the time of her d*ath and, though she never attempted to visit a lodge, she used Masonic signs in her travels through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, and other states. Her biography was written and published by her son, J. P. Babington of Lee Lodge No. 253, Taylorsville, North Carolina. However, no authentic documents to substantiate these statements have ever been produced.
