Apollonian Masons

Apollonian Masons. One of the several rival or dissenting societies of Masons which appeared following the organization of the premier Grand Lodge in 1717. In the notice published by the ANTEDILUVIAN MASONS in 1726 (q.v.), there are mentioned the Honorary, Apollonian, and Free and Accepted Masons, but that very brief newspaper reference and a summons to a member to attend a meeting are the only traces of it remaining. The name suggests some connection or possibly identity with PHILO-MUSICAE ET ARCHITECTURAE SOCIETAS APOLLONI (q.v.).
