Altenburg, Lodge at. Lodge Archimedes of the Three Tracing Boards at Altenburg, Saxe-Altenburg is one of the oldest lodges in Germany, having been instituted January 31, 1742 by a warrant from Leipzig. It successively attached itself to the Grand Lodge at Berlin and to the Eclectic Union at Frankfort, leaving the latter in 1801 to start a Directorate or Mother-Lodge of its own and, in that capacity, established lodges at Gera and Scheeberg. The lodge enjoyed high literary standing, publishing its history in 1803 and also three Masonic journals. Its fraternal periodical (”Brudderblatten”) continued to be published until 1854.
