Adjournment

Adjournment. Since a lodge is opened by and at the will of the Master and transacts the work laid out by the Master, he being responsible to the Grand Master and Grand Lodge for the conduct, work, and harmony of the lodge, it is obvious that the Master alone is competent to say when the lodge should be closed. Hence, there is no such procedure known as adjournment of a lodge by motion or otherwise. In early times in the United States, especially in Virginia, lodges were sometimes said to be adjourned, but this practice has long been discontinued.
