From the outside, the belt looks like an ordinary belt with no holes, but as you can see, it has a hard plastic sewn on the inside (5 1/2") that connects to a special device on the inside of the buckle.  There is a swivel on the back of the buckle that will open (same as military belt) and allow you to pull the belt out and cut from this end to the desired length, if necessary.    Size 41 fits waists 30-39 and size 48 fits waists 40-46.
